A Midlands-based artisan beer brand was the tipple of choice at celebrations for the prestigious World’s 50 Best Hotels awards at one of London’s top hotels.

The full Empress range, including its IPA, Pale Ale and Pilsner-style lager, was the only beer on tap at pre-parties for the awards hosted by The Langham Hotel, as well as an after-party held at Michel Roux Jr’s Wigmore Tavern, which is attached to five-star hotel.

Empress already supplies its range to The Wigmore, along with other top hotels and restaurants in the capital and around the UK, but Global Sales Director Nicos Charalambous said being the beer of choice for an awards event celebrating some of the best hotels in the world was a real ‘pinch-me moment’.

He said: “We were absolutely honoured to be the beer of choice at the pre-parties and after-party for the World’s Best 50 Hotels at The Langham Hotel and the Wigmore Tavern. We already work with both, but for them to showcase our brand at such a prestigious occasion to so many guests was a bit of a dream come true.”

The event, which took place on 18th September, is the latest coup for the Midlands-based premium craft beer after it was included in the drinks list at the world-famous Royal Academy of Music in London, whose alumni include Sir Simon Rattle, Sir Elton John and Annie Lennox.

Empress was founded by Leamington Spa-based entrepreneur Surj Virk in 2016 and since then has been taken on by venues and restaurants across the UK including the Jason Atherton group of restaurants, the Goodman Group and other top London hotels, including The Goring Hotel.

Their lager is also stocked in Waitrose, as well as being available online.

Nicos said the growing popularity of Empress is down to the fact it pairs particularly well with food, making it perfect for restaurant drinks lists, as well as the quality, with natural ingredients sourced as locally as possible.

He added: “On top of that, our lager is gluten-free, organic and vegan, which makes it a great option that everyone can enjoy, and people also seem to love the fact that we’re a British-born brand, made using British ingredients, with quality, provenance and flavour at the heart of what we do.”
